Last Updated (Sunday, 12 July 2009 11:05) Written by Anis Hamadeh Sunday, 12 July 2009 10:59
The following collection of ten biographies (Grässlin, Hänsel, Schachtschneider, Todenhöfer, Reisin, Hörstel, Wagner, Neudeck, Pfaff, Alaiyan) and sources is about people from different working fields who are engaged in the German public for nonkilling aims. I left the German sources in this translation and provided as many English links as possible. The series will be continued.Paul von Schoenaich (1866-1954)

The soldier and later pacifist Paul von Schoenaich belongs to the German nonkilling tradition. Glenn Paige suggested that his book "Abrüstung der Köpfe. Ein Weg zum Inneren und äußeren Frieden" (Leipzig 1923) is revealing in this respect.
Wikipedia Info (tr. from German): Paul Freiherr von Schoenaich (born 16.02.1866 in Klein Tromnau in Westpreußen); d. 07.01.1954 in Reinfeld (Holstein)) waa a German General Major and later pacifist. Schoenaich was from 1887 until 1907 at the 2. Gardedragoner-Regiment in Berlin, from 1913 on he was commander of the 15. Husaren-Regiment in Wandsbek. In WWI after front combats in France and Poland he resumed his work at the ministry of war. After the war he became a pacifist an joined the Deutsche Friedensgesellschaft (DFG) (German Peace Society) and became its president in the years 1929–1933 and 1946–1951. Contrary to his predecessor Ludwig Quidde, Schoenaich was for a consequent pacifist basis of the DFG. Publications: Abrüstung der Köpfe (1922), Vom vorigen zum nächsten Krieg (1924), Lebende Bilder aus Sowjet-Rußland (1925), Mein Damaskus (1925), Palästina (1926), Collection of articles: Zehn Jahre Kampf für Frieden und Recht (1929), Mein Finale (with the secret diary 1933-1945) (1947); about Schoenaich: Martin Jung, Paul von Schoenaich, in: Neue Deutsche Biographie, Vol. 23, p 381-2
